It is said that most accidents occur inside the home, even though most of the accidents are preventable. Therefore, it is not so hard, if proper care is taken, to make your home a safer place for your family. Please read through the following living situations for best practices.

Basement
User proper lighting when using power tools. This will greatly reduce your chances of cutting off your finger. Also make sure to remove any tripping hazards or wires that people may trip over. Tripping over only one appliance can set off a chain reaction that brings down a lot of other appliances, as electrical tools tend to be grouped together. Using safety wire or binding wires together or to the floor is a quick and cheap method of trip-proofing your basement.

Also when you replace fuses that blow out, you should be sure that the size is right. Replacing a certain fuse size with a larger fuse size can create a potentially large fire hazard. Moreover, if the fuse in the box is a higher rating than what is meant for the circuit, there will be an overflow of current, which can make it possible for an overload of the outlet and house wiring. All of this can potentially also create a fire hazard.

When using 3 pronged electrical tools, make sure you use an adapter when you plug it into a 2 hole- outlet. If you want to be extra safe, be sure to replace all old tools that don’t use a 3-prong plug, or aren’t double insulated.

Finally, be sure that you leave containers of poisonous liquids tightly secured and closed and out of reach of younger members of the family. Do a once-over of your garage to make sure all lids and caps are closed tightly and that they aren’t near large fire/heat sources.

When using these safety precautions, you can be sure that your basement is a bit safer for everyone living in your house!

Many people have found many problems with Pushmatic circuit breakers. It is recommended to replace pushmatic circuit breakers with another brand or type when you can. These breakers have been known to be dangerous, problematic, and difficult to work with.

The pushmatic breakers and panels have been difficult for some people to turn the main power from the on and off position. When breakers seem to trip they seem impossible to turn back to the on position as well. If you need to test a breaker and turn it off it can seem difficult to move the switch either way. When situations like this occur with a bulldog breaker panel it is best to bite the bullet and replace the entire panel.

Replacing an entire electric panel can seem rather expensive to do. If this is the case, you can slowly replace the pushmatic electric breakers as they fail or one at a time. It is best to replace the sticky breakers first and be extremely careful when you do so. These are dangerous panels to work on and many people don’t understand the danger.

When you are working on pushmatic circuit breakers it is important to be as careful as possible. Always shut down all of the power to the panel prior to touching the breakers. If you are removing or just testing, it is important to ensure the main power is off. Electricity is dangerous to work with because it doesn’t take much to seriously injure yourself. Also remember, just because the power is off doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still ground yourself. Be sure to be grounded when you are working on these breakers.

Not all pushmatic electric breakers cause problems. People notice issues with breaker panels all of the time and it could be due to a bad set of breakers or a bad panel. Problems with electricity in a property are dangerous and should be repaired quickly. If you find your panel is bad then it should be replaced with a new one. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use the pushmatic breakers but means you need a new panel. To replace panels is sometimes the only option. However, if you need more electricity in your home it doesn’t mean you need to replace the panel but it means you need an upgrade. An upgrade can be done without entirely replacing a panel. An upgrade can be performed by adding another subpanel to the current electrical system.

Pushmatic circuit breakers have been known to cause major problems in electrical panels in some homes. Some of the issues they have experienced include difficulty turning the main power switches on and off, difficulty moving the breaker switches to on and off positions, and more. These types of problems can be resolved by replacing the sticky breakers or even to replace the entire electrical panel. When you have problems with an electrical panel in your home, it is important to repair it rather than to let it go on. To replace one breaker at a time will help improve the system.

Guess what are most common objects of desire for filthy rich of the society? No points for guessing Cars and watches, these are favorite since ages and if these two most favorite items compliment each other in a product, then no way anybody can resist.
That’s the one of the USPs of Eberhard replica watches. for they are imitations of a brand known for being first in associating itself with car racing.
Beside this their ruggedness and strength is derived from their long time association with armed forces.
Georges-Emile Eberhard started his company in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 1887, after learning intricacies of Swiss watch making. He obtained a brilliant watch making career and conducted a thriving watch making business. Eberhard watches are respected for their meticulous craftsmanship and progressive designs.
Eberhard’s collection includes Chrono 4 series, Extra Forte, Tazio Nuvolari, The 8 Days which are epitome of technical perfection as well as innovation. Oversized timepieces with transparent case back, revealing complex movement can be made only by Eberhard.
Lots of research work goes behind each collection and expertise of experts also pooled in as in case of development of “Chronomaster Frecce Tricolori”, made for aerobatic squadron.
No wonder why watch officinados are always waiting for new developments from these masters of Chronographs and Chronometer manufacturing and more enthusiastic are those who wait for their replicas, since Eberhard Replica watches are gateway to uniqueness, elegance and for adding value to persona.
Icing on the cake is that these watches are modified to suit your budget as well as no compromise is made with look n feel, for which Eberhard’s are known.
Yeah, to cut the cost sometimes features are reduced or alternative material is used but the finish and ambience is never compromised. After all Eberhard replica watches are to be used in place of real Eberhard’s so we can’t take chances!

Which Items Need To Be PAT Tested?

Your electrician will attempt to provide guidance on what electrical equipment constitutes a ‘portable appliance’. This may include:

Electrical appliances that can be held in your hands and are at the same time connected to the electrical supply.

Electrical appliances that the customer may move while they are also connected to the electrical supply.

Electrical appliances the customer may move with a good degree of ease while connected to the electricity supply.

Your electrician will explain that while it is common for PAT testing to be completed on electrical equipment that is connected to the electrical supply via a socket, this is not the only specification of a portable appliance.

The IEE Regulations

The electrician will discuss the IEE regulations with you and specifically the code of practice suggests guidelines for the definition of a portable appliances. An electrical appliance is categorised as weighing less than 18kg and in turn can be moved in operation. Your electrician will confirm that essentially anything with a plug is classified as a portable appliance and therefore a PAT test is required. The electrician will perform PAT Testing on computers, AC adapters, vacuums, toasters, printers and also large items like amusement arcade machines.

The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation (NICEIC), of which many electricians are members, describes a portable appliance as ‘any electrical item which can be moved or the person intends to move the appliance while it is connected to the electrical supply.’

Portable Appliance Testing is Provided by Electricians for Health and Safety Reasons

A large number of electrical accidents in the workplace are caused by portable appliances as your electrician will confirm with you. In fact 25% of all electrical accidents in work environments involve portable appliances, but this can be reduced by PAT Testing from a qualified electrician. Legally it is the responsibility of the employer and their employees to make sure that appropriate measures are put in place to prevent hazards in work related situations. Advice from a qualified electrician in the safe management of portable appliances is necessary.

Electricians will confirm the relevant legislation that is applicable to PAT Testing to ensure electrical safety within the workplace. The following legislation documents require compliance from electricians:

Electricity at Work Regulations 1989

Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999

Given the level of legislative guidance on the subject, regular inspections and testing procedures by electricians need to be put in place for electrical equipment in commercial premises and let properties. There are specific guidelines in the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) for the purpose of portable electrical testing, which highlight the following incumbent parts:

Where electrical appliances are used by employees

Where the general public use appliances, for example schools, retail outlets, hotels etc.

Where electrical appliances are supplied or hired by the general public or businesses.

Where electrical appliances are repaired or serviced for continual use.

If the electrician does not pass the PAT test in the initial inspection, no appliance can then be passed as safe to use.

The electrician will commence an initial visual inspection of the plug, lead and protective casing of the appliance. The electricians will specifically assess the plug top to make sure it has the correct fuse, cord grip, has a sufficiently balanced polarity and the terminations are tight. The electrician will look for cracking or specific heat damage and will ensure the plug has insulating pins conforming to the BS standards.

The casing of the electrical appliance is fully examined by the electrician who will look for visible damage. The radius of the holes located in the casing must not be more than 6mm and no live incumbent parts should be noticeable within 80mm of the opening.

The Health & Safety Executive provides advice on appropriate health and safety measures of which all electricians will be aware of. The frequency of the electrical testing and related inspections of portable appliances is not set in stone, but companies have a duty of care to the health and safety of all the people who come into contact with the appliances. The periods of inspection for portable appliance testing are often down to a combination of common sense and through adequate information from electricians. There are several environmental considerations to take into account including:

The environment where the electrical appliance is being operated. If the appliance is more exposed to general wear and tear, then it may need to be tested more regularly by an electrician?

In an ideal situation if damage occurs, the electrical appliance will be in a better condition and is not hazardous to users.

The structure of the equipment itself and whether the electrical appliance is damaged or worn out?

As your electrician will confirm the type of equipment can impact on how well it wears? Certain hand held electrical appliances often get damaged more easily.

If you have PAT testing requirements, you will need to contact a local electrician for more advice so that the property and all its appliances are safe.

Use a local Mr-Electric electrician for PAT testing, electrical installation and repairs.

A master bedroom would not be complete without a bathroom. Space, time constraints, accessibility, comfort and eye appeal is all things that must go plan a principle design of the bathroom. Of these, however, space is the most important.

Spacious bathrooms

When it comes to bathrooms, many people wish they were bigger. The bathrooms are definitely more spacious today, taking into account specialty supplements as a large hot tub area or wearing separately.

If you are lucky enough to remodel an old bathroom to make it bigger, or if you have access to accessories and vintage tiles, now is the time to use them. The bathroom accessories from the vintage are popping up in new homes all over the globe. The old sinks and bathtubs pink cobalt-blue vintage ceramic tiles and lime-green can be incorporated into the modern decor of nice newer homes. Simply add a touch of vintage here and there, incorporating the tiles as accent pieces or bits of conversation, rather than tiling the entire bathroom with them.

Vintage tiles make a pattern embedded in the blanket on the floor, or tile short of the bank support or plant. The old mirrors or faucets can also add a nostalgic touch to a bathroom otherwise barren.

Time constraints and accessibility

We are a society of work. Therefore, its imperative that the master bath is spacious enough to accommodate two people at once. When both you and your spouse must be at work simultaneously, dual shower heads located at opposite ends of showers shower and to be extra-wide are a. His and her sinks and dressing areas without drawing are also perfect for working couples. The best approach is to develop a major design bathroom including separate bathrooms.

Over the last 100 hundred years as time has gone on more and more ideas have sprung up for the use of electrical home appliances. The most popular being television, telephones and personnel computers. In fact electricity has not just changed our lives in general but it has changed what the average human being does on a day to day basis.

When in history has somebody been starring at an object and called it a job. Now this is what a lot of people do in the computer and other related field do. Some of the changes have not been welcome in my eyes. The amount of time people spend playing computer or watching television is way too much, therefore causing obesity issues with adults.

While there are life changing setbacks that electricity has brought to human beings there are of course huge advantages, which easily overcome any drawbacks. One such example is the light bulb. In the past candles were used to give light as soon as the sun went down. However now you can get your light through a light bulb, this can be done by the press of a button or flick of switch and is of a much higher intensity.

Pretty much all tasks done in the home use electricity. Washing clothes, washing dishes or cooking food it all requires electricity. But all the devices have one main task and that is to make the house chores as simple, easy and quickly as possible. In the future much more human activities will be overtaken or aided by electrical appliances.

Electrical junction boxes are metal or plastic enclosures in which electric wires meet and join together. The most common junction boxes measure 2-1/2″ to 3-1/2″ deep and are used according to the number of wires being joined together. Boxes that measure 2″ x 3″ x 2-1/2″ typically have three wires, while the boxes that measure 2″ x 3″ x 3-1/2″ usually have 5 wires. Electrical junction boxes need to be attached to a variety of base materials, such as concrete, brick or block. Different types of anchors are available, depending on the specific application and user preference. Most electrical junction box applications require that the concrete fastener not protrude into the box and have a finished or smaller head to allow more space in the junction box as well as to eliminate a snag point for the electrical wires.

Tapcon – Concrete/Cement Screws

Tapcon concrete screws are used widely for fastening a junction box to concrete, brick or block base material. They are the most versatile type of concrete fastener for this type of application because they work equally well regardless of the material, have consistent holding values and have a high installation success rate. The hex head works best with its positive drive when installing and the smaller head does not protrude into the junction box. The Tapcon concrete screw is easily removed if needed and has excellent holding values both in the 3/16″ diameter and the 1/4″ diameter head style. The Tapcon concrete screw requires a minimum embedment depth of 1″ and a maximum embedment depth of 1-3/4″. The screw length that is used most frequently for this application is the 1-1/4″ and the 1-3/4″, either in the 3/16″ diameter or the 1/4″ diameter. The head size on the 3/16″ diameter Tapcon is smaller than the 1/4″ and may be a consideration when choosing the most appropriate fastener. The 3/16″ diameter Tapcon requires a 1/4″ driver and the 1/4″ diameter requires a 5/16″ driver. When installing a concrete screw it is very important to use the correct bit size because the hole size and screw size tolerance are critical. The 3/16″ diameter concrete screws require a 5/32″ hole and the 1/4″ diameter require a 3/16″ hole diameter. The hole must also be drilled into the base material a minimum of 1/2″ deeper than the screw will penetrate the base material, which allows space for materials to go during the installation process. The Tapcon concrete screw is available in a 410 stainless steel that can be used in environments where corrosion is a concern. Larger diameter Tapcon or LDT’s are also available in 3/8″, ½”, 5/8″ and ¾” diameters for the larger, heavier junction boxes fastened to concrete, brick or block.

Wedge Anchor

The wedge anchor can only be used to fasten a junction box to concrete. The most common diameter used is the 1/4″ diameter. Large size wedge anchors are available up to 1-1/4″ diameter for larger, heavier junction box applications. The wedge anchor in the 1/4″ diameter comes in the three lengths of 1-3/4″, 2-1/4″ and 3-1/4″ and the minimum embedment (see 2nd column in chart below) is 1-1/8″. The length of anchor chosen must be long enough for the anchor to be embedded into the concrete at least 1-1/8″; a 1-3/4″ length wedge anchor is used for fastening material up to 5/8″ thick; a 2-1/4″ length wedge anchor is used for material up to 1-1/8″; a 3-1/4″ length wedge anchor is used for up to 2-1/8″ thick material. The longer wedge anchors can be used for thinner material. Embedding into the concrete requires more drilling, but the holding value increases as the wedge anchor is embedded more deeply into the concrete. A drawback to using the wedge anchor for fastening a junction box to concrete is that after the wedge anchor is set, the stud and nut may stick out into the box and decrease valuable space as well as become a snag point for the wiring. Keep in mind that the wedge anchor is designed for use in concrete only, which means that it is not as versatile as some of the other concrete fasteners, such as the Tapcon concrete screw or sleeve anchor.

Sleeve Anchor

The sleeve anchor is very versatile for fastening junction boxes to concrete, brick or block and is used by many electrical contractors for this application. The design of the sleeve anchor makes it well-suited for most base materials, especially for material that is suspect for its ability to be attached to. The most common diameter of sleeve anchor used for fastening junction boxes to concrete, brick or block is the 1/4″. The 1/4″ diameter comes in a number of different lengths, depending on the thickness of material that is being fastened down or on the depth of embedment. There are two available head styles for sleeve anchors: acorn nut and round head. The acorn nut is a smaller beveled nut that allows for lower profile and eliminates an edge for wires to be snagged on. The round head slotted is the most popular because the head has a very low profile and has minimal protrusion into the junction box. The acorn head comes in three lengths: 5/8″, 1-3/8″ and 2-1/4″. The round head comes in two lengths: 1-1/4″ and 2″.

Hammer Drive Anchor

Hammer drive anchors are well-suited for fastening junction boxes to solid concrete when a permanent attachment is required. The hammer drive anchor is designed so that when the anchor has expanded the junction box cannot be removed without risk of damage to the junction box or without cutting the head off the anchor. The head style on the hammer drive anchor is perfect for this application for several reasons: it has a low, wide profile, it takes up little space in the junction box, there is nothing for the wires to snare on, it has a larger than normal bearing surface, and it has increased pull-over values. The hammer drive anchor is available in two (2) diameters: 3/16″ and 1/4″. The 3/16″ diameter is not used for this application because its only length is 7/8″, which is not long enough to achieve minimum embedment. This is also true for the 3/4″ long 3/4″ length hammer drive. The sizes most commonly used for attaching junction boxes to concrete are the 1″, 1-1/4″ and 1-1/2″ length hammer drive.

As with any home improvement or anchoring project, it is important to keep safety in mind and follow instructions carefully. Always remember to wear safety goggles, handle all tools with extra care, and follow all technical specifications. This article is meant to serve as a basic overview of the steps for completing this project. Always refer to manufacturer’s instructions or consult a contracting expert. With a little research, planning and patience you are now ready to expand your home or create some new space!

We have all experienced it. We are watching TV or working in front of the computer then suddenly out goes the power leaving you in the dark groping for a flashlight or a candlestick. While the initial consequence of having the entire household come together around a single candle and telling scary stories might be fun. We all know that will not last.

Soon boredom will kick in and in no time you will be cursing the utility provider.

This should not happen if you have a house generator that you can use to power at least even the basic appliances during power outages or blackouts.

What are house generators? Well basically they are engines that creates the electrical current that you can use to run electric appliances. These engines are fueled by either gas, diesel, propane or natural gas and most of them can run for hours and hours so you can have power even in cases of extended outages during bad weather and other disturbances.

Not all generators are created equal though and it as a bit of task to choose one because of the variety of options.

First thing you need to do is to determine which appliances you need to use it for. The lights, the television, refrigerator, the computer, etc. I suggest just listing the essential stuff that will maintain an acceptable level of normalcy in your life even during blackouts.

Generator wattage can go as low as a few hundred watts to thousands of watts. If you need lots of power for your house, you can get the 10,000 watt models or higher. These should be more than enough for the stuff I gave in my example above and then some but be sure to read the fine print first before you installing a generator meant for emergencies.

There are a lot of safety considerations when using a generator for your house. First and foremost is the location of the generator. Never install a generator inside the house because most generators are run using a internal combustion engines that emit carbon monoxide in its exhausts. This is highly toxic and will kill anything breathing in an enclosed area. Install the generator outside of the house but also be sure to protect it from the elements. Make sure it does not get wet.

House generators are a good investment if you wish to maintain a certain level of convenience even during power blackouts. Just be sure to read up the fine print and do a little research before you go to the store and buy one.
